Foxmoor Farm

“Specializing in Red Cashmere Goats”

About us:

·  Carol and Carrie Spencer are mother-daughter partners.  Carol is the primary goat raiser and Carrie is support staff and computer maintenance.

·  Our 10 acre farm is located in Silverton, Oregon.  We began raising Cashmere goats in 1991.  Currently we run about 25 adult goats.

·  We began developing our Red Cashmere line in 2003.  We love the color of the goat and their fiber.  Raising the red color is an interesting and continuing challenge.

·  Our herd is a “spinner’s” herd with emphasis on even length and style of fiber but conformation is an equally important consideration.

·  Our market emphasis is to produce a cashmere fiber with a clear natural color to be used by fiber artists (spinners and weavers).

·  We hand comb and hand de-hair all our fiber.  Our fiber is sold once a year at our booth at the Black Sheep Gathering.  We do not take advance orders or sell our fiber over the Internet.

Our herd:

·  is red Cashmere goats only.  We maintain and combine 3 separate red cashmere bloodlines.  Our herd is a solid color herd.

·  is 100% American Cashmere Goat - line bred from the original Australian import stock.  We do not cross with other goat breeds.

·  and farm name has been registered in the Cashmere Goat herd book.  Our herd code is “FXMF”.  It identifies the goats we have bred and raised on our farm.

·  Our adult females weigh from 125 to 150 lbs. and our adult males weigh from 150 to 200 lbs.

·  has been selectively bred to have short guard hair with 2 ½” natural colored cashmere fiber.  We do not dye our fiber.

·  produces 1 - 3 ounces of usable cashmere fiber per goat depending on the age. ½ ounce of fiber is equal to a gallon size zip loc bag and is light in weight.

·  has a herd micron count of 16 - 17.  Our fiber is long enough and strong enough to spin and weave with 100% but with good crimp and handle.

·  has a 3 to 7 generation full pedigree of our own breeding with a red emphasis.

·  We do not sell pets, brush goats or meat goats from our farm.  We only sell red breeding stock and fiber wethers.

We sell only goats that we would use in our breeding program.  Occasionally a few older does and bucks that have been in our breeding herd are for sale.

All goats for sale are listed on the “Goats For Sale” page of our web site.

·  For those who do not want to breed but are interested in the cashmere fiber and the rarer colors, we keep a few fiber wethers (nuetered males) for sale.
